I loved the "insider's view" about parts of your creative process ... very inspirational to me! And boy, can I ever identify with sketchbook fear, as I think I, too, "have a strange idea of what a sketchbook is supposed to be." Thanks to you, I'm signed up for Sketchbook Revival ... now I just need to actually sit down and do it (or, better way to put it, PLAY).
P.S. Love your mustard-colored overalls in the photo you shared!
Thank you, Lauren. I really wish we could all just let go of all this pressure to create and just play in our art-making. It's so hard, though, isn't it? I hope you have fun with Sketchbook Revival!
And thanks about the overalls! They've become my uniform. I have lots, both long and short.
I'm excited to take your new class, Anne! My herbs in the garden were my sketchbook inspiration this summer! I learned so much about the medicinal properties. Now, there are Dahlia gardens brightening neighborhood yards, but I haven't tackled sketching them yet. Maybe I'll start with the beautiful eye catching yellow & red one named Ketchup & Mustard; I love the name!
Thanks so much, Karen. Studying herbs in a sketchbook is such a great idea. It's a project that could keep going and going! Dahlias are fun to paint and sketch and you're right about Ketchup and Mustard! I'm always intrigued by the names of plant varieties. I hope you sketch it!
Lovely ideas and beautiful sketches. I , on the other side of the world am savouring my lovely garden in Spring .. but it disappears in Summer 🌺 due to the intense heat where I utilise shade cloth and the use of big trees. It is a small piece of happiness for me also.
Thank you, Carole! Ah, spring! Such an inspiring and beautiful time of year. It's so interesting to me how different climates can be and the different challenges we face as gardeners in different parts of the world. Keep savoring your springtime!
That does seem like it would be difficult to paint your botanicals outside but at least now you can be super close but inside. Congratulations on your upcoming class! It's always nice to see your sketchbook play.
Thank you, Dana!! I was so inspired by all of the sketches you shared that were inspired looking out your windows. Lots of my views (except of my garden) aren't very inspiring, but I think I'll have to look again.

Always love seeing your garden and your sketchbooks. I love sketching and creating art outside in the garden - so much inspiration. Thank you Anne. 🫶🏻
Thanks, Clare. Perhaps someday I'll be as comfortable working outside as you are! Always enjoy seeing what you've been up to, too.

Thank you, Becca! Lovely to hear about your collaborative garden with your partner and how it inspires both of you. Such a beautiful thought!
